The Blue Mountain Bucks got an RBI Single from Cameron Roy and added 2 more on a throwing error at second base to defeat Leland & Gray 6-3, capping off a perfect in-state season and back-to-back Division 4 State championships.
Starting Pitcher Owen Murray had a difficult start to the game, walking the first two batters on 4 pitches each with the first runner scoring on an error by the catcher. The Rebels added another run on an RBI single by Peyton Butynski).
But the Bucks would answer in the bottom of the inning with a 2-run hit by Brody Kingsbury and an error at shortstop scoring a 3rd run. After that, Murray would settle down and not allow another hit until the sixth inning, though the Rebels would add another run off of an error in the fourth to tie it a 3.
In the bottom of the sixth, Will Emerson walked and Kason Blood (4-for-4) would single to start the inning. Roy would score Emerson on his hit and move to second on the throw home. After a pop-out and a Kingsbury IBB, Murray would pop out to the second baseman, who would try to pick off Blood at 3rd. But an errant throw allowed him and Roy to score.
Leland & Gray would make it interesting in the 7th with a bunt single and walk putting the first two runners on. But Murray would get a pair of FCs and a fly out to center to end the game.
BMU finished the season at 18-1, winning the program's 11th state title. 6-seed Leland & Gray, who had to win twice on the road to get here, finish at 10-9.
